Located in the heart of Ottawa, Canada, Dows Lake is a small man-madelake located on the Rideau Canal. Named after Abram Dow, the formerowner of the surrounding lands, the area was converted from rail yardsin the 1940’s into the beautiful parkland that occupies the site today.
Flankedby two scenic drives (the Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Colonel ByDrive), Dows Lake is a popular stop for tourists and Ottawa citizensalike, especially due to its seasonal events.
In May, thesurrounding park is the main site for the annual Tulip Festival, whichincludes fantastic tulip displays from Holland, boat displays,fireworks, buskers and live performances. During the winter months,Dows Lake freezes and becomes part of the world's longest skating rinkand one of the primary sites of the annual Winterlude festival inFebruary, which includes various events such as ice sculpting,concerts, and various races on the ice.
